Initial Teacher Training (ITT)

St Marylebone Teaching School Alliance works collaboratively with a variety of schools, trainers, universities and organisations to provide a wide variety of Initial Teacher Training courses.

Alliance schools engage with a whole variety of ITT routes such as BEd, PGCE, School Direct and Teach First.

What is School Direct?

School Direct options

1. School Direct (Training or unsalaried), which is similar to the current PGCE.

It is open to all graduates and funded by tuition fees paid by the trainee who will be eligible for the standard student support package, including training bursaries, tuition fee loans and scholarships where eligible. The trainee may receive a bursary from the DfE.

2. School Direct Training Programme (salaried).

It is an employment-based route into teaching for high-quality graduates with three or more years’ career experience. The trainee is employed as an unqualified teacher by the school. DfE provides funding which the school can use to subsidise the trainee’s salary and/or training.
